Few of us can do great things. But, all of us can do small things with love.

Mother Theresa

Proposal > Strategy

The question is, how can disenfranchised orphans, abandoned by their families and society, be reintegrated and what's more, empowered? There is no simple answer or magic cure. It is a long process, a process that sponsors, board members, workers and teachers at the orphanage must collaborate on.

Re-integration
BKF's strategy will be to evaluate every child annually, and draw up a general plan for the child's future. The individual plans will be regularly reviewed and are available for the scrutiny of sponsors. The goal is to make the child financially independent and integrated into society as soon as possible. Whether this entails signing up the child for special courses, vocational training, or further schooling, will be decided on a case-by-case basis. An assessment will be made of each child, and resources will be allocated accordingly. A rigorous academic and social program will be tailor-made for each child to develop his/her potential, with the ultimate goal of making the children financially independent and productive members of Congolese society. The program will consist of subsidized schooling, extracurricular activities, vocational training and will require constant guidance from BKF staff members.

Making the child independent may also involve extending a micro-credit loan to help set up some kind of business. The loan will be paid back with interest and in this way, the credit can be continually extended to others needing capital to set up small businesses.

Funding
Our mission is to serve our children and communities with unconditional love free of expectations. But, financial support is important to any non-profit organization, for that reason we welcome all monetary or donation of goods, which can help improve the living conditions of children. All tax deductibles donations will be listed on our website and in our annual financial reports with special thanks to the children

A. There are several levels of sponsorship including the following:

  • Sponsor, or partly sponsor a student
  • Purchase, or partly fund the purchase of an item of equipment.
  • Make a donation towards the modest running costs of the project
  • Donate clothing, or unwanted items for re-sale
  • Volunteer at Buelela Orphanage for any length of time - A few hours, half a day, temporarily or permanently

BKF will aggressively seek out sponsors for the children under its care. Potential sponsors will be given printouts on each child's personal details and "life plan". Sponsorship will cover care for children on an individual basis. The sponsor can choose how many and which children he or she wishes to sponsor. We strive to ensure that the entire sponsorship process is as transparent and open as possible for all involved.

Once sponsors for the orphanage have been secured to ensure that the above objectives are met, a second orphanage can be established to care for more children. In this way, the number of orphans will continuously expand, but BKF will not be allowed to expand beyond its means.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in.
